1 mM, anything higher could precipitate
Andrés is a Research Scientist in the Afasizheva Lab at Boston University, where he studies how mitochondria organize the machinery that processes RNA and controls gene expression. He uses a combination of cell biology, biochemistry, proteomics, and CryoEM to explore how this organization supports cellular metabolism and adaptation. As part of the HHMI Emerging Pathogens Initiative, Andrés helped map the full set of mitochondrial proteins in kinetoplastid species by developing large-scale methods to isolate and analyze mitochondria. He enjoys collaborative projects and has broad experience designing and refining experimental approaches from concept to interpretation. Before joining the Afasizheva Lab, Andrés worked in the Afasizhev Lab at Boston University, where he expanded his expertise in mitochondrial RNA biology through close collaboration with colleagues. He previously trained at the University of Navarra and Fiocruz Bahia, where he studied protein kinases and small-molecule targets through a combination of in silico docking and pharmacological testing in parasite and mammalian systems, as well as immune response studies in mouse models. His overarching interest lies in understanding how the inner workings of cells can inspire new biomedical discoveries. Outside the lab, Andrés enjoys mentoring, collaborative science, and visiting the zoo.
